The gaming market has been booming for over a decade, and has not only exceeded expectations nearly every year, but has proven to be nearly recession-proof in terms of growth. It seems that no matter what the economy is doing, people want their video games for entertainment. Even the most novel and ridiculous sounding games often become a viral sensation. As long as the game is playable it will find a player, and the level of quality will always correlate to sales. As one indie developer has discovered, reviews = revenue.
